September 12 Academic Update

This was an awesome week in 3rd Grade! We started a new unit in Social Studies, finished a unit in Math, started the writing process in English Language Arts, began a new read aloud, and so much more! Enjoy reading our update and leave a blog comment below! 

Math: 
We finished rounding and now working on problem solving. -Ava
We took our first Math Unit test! -Keara

English Language Arts:
We are working on our "Fly Away" stories. -Britney 
We are learning to revise. -Sean 
We used the ARMS acronym for revising. -Laiba 
We are learning the Questioning skill. We learned the difference between thin and thick questions. -Justin 
We are reading Ramona Quimby Age 8 for the read aloud. -Chase and Kaleb

We are learning about cursive starting with the letters a and c. -Matthew

Social Studies:
Our signals words are Region and Adaptation. -Deonta
In theme we are learning about Geography. The Valley, Desert, Coast, and Mountains are the regions of California. We live in the Valley. -Lizzy
We are learning about Native Americans.  -Carissa

We got partners to study the tribes we are learning about: Wappo, Yurok, Chumash, Maidu, Serrano, and Miwok. -Keara
The students are researching local Native American tribes on the Chrome books. They will use their notes from the research to create Google Presentations! Ask your student which tribe s/he is researching. -Ms. Steinlein
PE/Tech:
We did crossfit with Mr. Jason. -Roman
Mr. Jason is awesome! 
We had our first blogger of the week. We practiced writing comments. -Showmen

Specials:
We are still practicing Empathy -Isaac
Next week is the Electronic Party on Friday! Yay! -Chase 
We are using table points! The table with the most points get to sit where they chose during independent work time.  -Emma
Today we met with our little buddies! It is always a highlight of my week because they are so cute together! -Ms. Steinlein
